Ahead of their rumored Super League departure, the Gold Coast Titans waved farewell to an international prop.
While Yorkshire Live reported in August that Leigh Leopards were in talks to bring Liu over to Super League for 2025 and beyond, it appears that deal has been struck as Gold Coast has officially confirmed his departure. Kiwi international Clark has returned to New Zealand Warriors on a three-year contract.
One of the NRL’s most capped forwards, Liu played his 272nd and last game of the season this past weekend against the Penrith Panthers.
The Auckland-born prop played 203 games throughout his 11 seasons with the Sydney Roosters from 2013 to 2021, helping Trent Robinson’s team win two NRL Grand Finals.
In 2022, he joined the Titans, where he played for three seasons, totaling 69 appearances.
On the international front, Liu has represented both Samoa and New Zealand. 2014 saw him make his international debut for Samoa, where he won five caps in honor of his Samoan ancestry. In 2017, he changed allegiance to his natal nation of New Zealand, where he won 12 caps and competed for the Kiwis in the last two World Cups.
Isaac Liu, a reported Super League target, bids adieu to the Gold Coast Titans
Steve Mitchell, the chief executive of the Titans, paid tribute to Liu, who is leaving the team and will be joining many prominent players in the Super League next season.
“Isaac has had an amazing NRL career with both our club and the Roosters in the past,” Mitchell remarked.
