Virginia head coach Tony Elliott‘s halftime message to his team at Notre
Dame Stadium on Saturday was clearcut — “you can’t expect to beat a top 10 team turning the ball over.” The Cavaliers
ended up turning it over five times to the Fighting Irish in a 35-14 victory for the home team.
“I told them the truth — ‘we’ve earned right where we’re at boys,’” Elliott said at halftime, when the score was 28-0.
“Kudos to them, but it’s really about us. We didn’t make the plays and we gave them short opportunities. And they
capitalized. they’re supposed to capitalize. That’s what good football teams do.”
