Tragic Loss: LSU Freshman Pole Vaulter Dillon Reidenauer Passes Away

Louisiana State University (LSU) is mourning the loss of freshman pole vaulter Dillon Reidenauer, who tragically passed away following a car accident near Tiger Stadium on February 26, 2025. Reidenauer, 18, was an interior design major at LSU and was considered a promising young athlete with a bright future ahead of her in the sport of pole vaulting.

The incident occurred late in the evening when a collision involving Reidenauer’s vehicle and a motorcycle resulted in both vehicles bursting into flames. The motorcycle rider, 23-year-old Bodhi Linton, also tragically lost his life in the crash. While the exact details of the accident are still under investigation, local authorities have expressed their condolences and promised a full inquiry into the tragic event.

Reidenauer’s death has sent shockwaves through the LSU athletic community, with friends, teammates, and coaches all expressing their profound grief. Head coach Dennis Shaver of the LSU Track and Field team released a statement expressing his deep sorrow. “Dillon was a model student-athlete who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence. She was not only dedicated to her craft, but she also brought a sense of joy and positivity to all who knew her,” Shaver said. “Our hearts go out to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

As a freshman, Reidenauer had already begun to make her mark on the team. She had shown remarkable potential in her pole vaulting performances and was expected to play a key role in LSU’s track and field program in the coming years. Her coaches had high hopes for her development, and many considered her one of the most promising young athletes on the team.
