JUST NOW: Souths support their own efforts to revive Schuster’s career…..

Sport news

South Sydney has given former Manly prospect Josh Schuster a one-year contract for 2025, believing they can help him turn around his career.

Schuster will join the Rabbitohs under Wayne Bennett, the club announced on Wednesday. This comes five months after Manly set the playmaker go.

Despite being one of the Sea Eagles’ most gifted prospects for a long time, Schuster has struggled with fitness issues ever since making his team debut in 2020.

In the end, the 23-year-old was let go after his $2.4 million, three-year deal at Manly was terminated before it had even started.

Manly gave Schuster a severance settlement, and he has since trained out of the spotlight in the NRL.

He will, however, now make a comeback to target the Rabbitohs, who think they can get the best of the Samoan delegate.

Mark Ellison, the head of football of South Sydney, stated, “We think a return to the NRL with our club will be just what Josh needs to get his career back on track.”

“We have faith that he can make the most of this second chance to succeed in the NRL, at a new club with fresh teammates, new coaches, and raised expectations, to resume his career and meet individual and team objectives.

“We’re looking forward to Josh joining us for the 2025 pre-season as he gets ready for a new start next season in the red and green of South Sydney.”

Schuster, who played back row for Manly in 2021 and was moved back there this year, has previously stated that he wants to rejoin the NRL as a playmaker.

This year, he did not add to his 50 NRL appearances; instead, he played the first month of the season in reserve grade before to leaving Manly.
