Breaking News: On WWE Raw, Jey Uso defeats Bron Breakker to win the IC title and wins his first career singles belt…

“Main Event” Jey Uso had never won a singles gold in his fourteen years in the WWE. Everything was turned upside down on Monday night when Uso defeated Bron Breakker to win the Intercontinental Championship on “WWE Raw.” Uso won the opportunity by winning a Fatal Four Way against Ilja Dragunov, Pete Dunne, and Braun Strowman on the September 9 episode of “Raw,” and though he and Breakker had been jawing in the weeks since, the duo have never faced each other previously.

Uso appeared to be headed for disappointment after being hit with Breakker’s Super Spear on the outside and then rolling back into the ring, seemingly set up for yet another, but he landed a Spear of his own, followed by the Uso Splash for a near fall, with Breakker kicking out at about 2.9. In the end, it took a Uso Superkick to counter another attempted Spear from Breakker, poking the champion through the barricade, rolling him back into the ring, and one last Spear/Uso Splash combo for Jey to record the upset.

With the championship gold around his waist and, it seems, a heavy weight off his shoulders, 12-time WWE Tag Team Champion Uso can now stand tall on his own. “Raw” play-by-play announcer Joe Tessitore made sure to point out that Uso had failed in six previous attempts to win a singles championship, most recently losing to GUNTHER for the Intercontinental title in February of this year.
