Five people have died in a horrific crash on the M6, two of them children.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday (October 15), there were reports of a two-car collision on the northbound carriageway near Tebay Services. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called. The incident involved a Skoda and a Toyota, according to Cumbria Police.
The man from Cambridgeshire who was operating the Skoda was declared deceased on the spot. The Glasgow Toyota’s driver, a man, a woman, and two kids all passed away at the scene.
According to the officers, a third child in the Toyota was transported with severe injuries to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary. Officers with specialised training are providing support to the families of those involved.
Before it reopened in the early hours of this morning (October 16), the motorway was closed for approximately 12 hours. Anyone who saw the incident or has information is being urged to contact the police.
Cumbria Police issued the following statement: “We are looking for witnesses to a fatal collision that happened on the M6 Northbound past Tebay Services. Officers were dispatched to the scene yesterday, October 15, at 4:04 p.m.
The Skoda and the Toyota were the two cars involved in the collision. The man from Cambridgeshire who was operating the Skoda was declared dead at the scene.
“The Glasgow Toyota’s driver, a man, a woman, and two kids were also declared dead at the scene. With severe injuries, a third child in the Toyota was transported to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.
“Specially trained officers are providing support to the families of those involved.” Early this morning saw the full reopening of the M6 Northbound.
