This will be the second top five road matchup for Kirby Smart’s Dawgs after taking on previously No. 4 ranked Alabama in September. Georgia’s tough slate is obviously taken the focus of Smart and the UGA staff, yet recruiting efforts have not taken a step back.

Georgia landed a commitment from five-star recruit Elijah Griffin, the nation’s No. 1 defensive lineman, on Friday. According to 247Sports, Griffin is ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2025.

he Bulldogs have been working on a pledge from Griffin (6-foot-5, 285 pounds) for a long time. The Savannah, Georgia, native’s final decision came down to Georgia, Miami or USC before making his pledge to UGA after visiting Athens earlier this week.

Smart and company put a lot of stock in recruiting talent along the lines of scrimmage. The Dawgs, boasting the No. 3 class in the country, already held a commitment from five-star edge defender Isaiah Gibson before adding Griffin to the fold. Georgia is also in the running for five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry, the nation’s No. 2 player at the position

The Bulldogs adding an elite talent like Griffin while preparing for a massive SEC matchup is an example of how the college football grind never ceases. Whether Georgia pulls off the upset on Saturday night or not, UGA will be in contention for years to come.

Texas-Georgia is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
