Breaking news: Inland Girls’ Water Polo Teams Gear Up for CIF Southern Section Playoffs

As the CIF Southern Section girls’ water polo playoffs approach, six Inland area teams are making final preparations for their championship pursuits. The playoffs are set to commence on February 4, 2025, featuring seven divisions: Open, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Chaparral High School (Division 5): The Chaparral Pumas, who clinched the Division 5 championship last year with an impressive 11-8 victory over Troy High School, are eager to defend their title. Head coach Josh Stone emphasizes the importance of maintaining focus and not underestimating any opponent. Reflecting on last year’s success, Stone stated, “As long as we play our game, there shouldn’t be any surprises that we aren’t ready for.”

Murrieta Valley High School (Division 1): The Nighthawks have consistently been a formidable presence in Division 1. In the previous season, they advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to San Clemente. This year, under the leadership of coach Bryan Lynton, Murrieta Valley aims to leverage their experience and depth to make a deeper playoff run.

King High School (Division 1): King High’s girls’ water polo team showcased resilience last season, securing a spot in the quarterfinals after a notable 13-11 victory over Santa Margarita in the first round. Coach Kevin Rosa has been focusing on strengthening the team’s defense and cohesion, aiming to surpass last year’s performance.

Yucaipa High School (Division 1): Yucaipa’s water polo program has been on an upward trajectory. Despite a challenging matchup against JSerra Catholic in the first round last year, the team gained valuable playoff experience. Coach Megan Brown believes that this experience will be instrumental as they prepare for the upcoming playoffs.

Paloma Valley High School (Division 5): Paloma Valley made a significant impact last season, reaching the semifinals before encountering a strong Chaparral team. With a roster blending seasoned players and emerging talent, coach Sarah Reneker is optimistic about their prospects in this year’s tournament.

Cajon High School (Division 5): Cajon High’s girls’ water polo team demonstrated determination last season, advancing to the quarterfinals after a narrow 10-9 victory over Muir High School. Coach Mark Peters has been emphasizing rigorous training and strategic play, aiming to propel the team further in the playoffs this year.

The CIF Southern Section girls’ water polo playoffs are renowned for their competitive intensity, and this year promises to be no exception. As these Inland teams finalize their preparations, the anticipation builds for a series of thrilling matches. Fans and supporters are encouraged to attend the games and rally behind their local teams as they vie for championship glory.
