In a surprising turn of events, Texas Longhorns volleyball setter Ella Swindle has announced her decision to remain with the team for the upcoming season, dispelling any rumors of her departure. Swindle, who played a pivotal role in leading the Longhorns to the 2023 national championship as a freshman, faced a challenging 2024 season after being replaced in the starting lineup by junior transfer Averi Carlson.

Despite the setback, Swindle’s commitment to the team remains unwavering. She took to Instagram to share her resolve, stating, “Longhorn nation, see you next year.” Her announcement was met with enthusiastic support from teammates, including Emma Halter and Jenna Wenaas, who expressed their pride and encouragement.

Swindle’s journey with the Longhorns has been marked by significant achievements. In her freshman year, she amassed 1,088 assists over 114 sets, earning freshman All-American honors. The following season, despite limited playing time, she continued to contribute, recording 265 assists in 69 sets. Her perseverance and team-first attitude have been lauded by both coaches and teammates.

 

As the Longhorns prepare for the 2025 season, Swindle’s return bolsters the team’s depth at the setter position. With both Swindle and Carlson on the roster, Texas is poised to maintain a strong offensive strategy. The team will also focus on filling key roles following the departures of standout players such as Madisen Skinner, Reagan Rutherford, and Jenna Wenaas.
