A Cortland man was arrested for sexual offenses and putting a child’s welfare in jeopardy.

New York State Police at Homer arrested a man for crimes involving children.

State Police arrested Calvin J. Verny-Rasmussen, 26, of Cortland, after receiving an online tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The tip indicated that child sexual abuse material was being shared online.

An investigation by the New York State Police Computer Crimes Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation further revealed that in addition to promoting and possessing images consistent with child exploitation, Verny-Rasmussen inappropriately touched a child under the age of 11.

Verny-Rasmussen was charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, promoting sexual performance by a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

After being processed at the Homer Police Department, Verny-Rasmussen was turned over to the Cortland County Jail and was remanded on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
